I thought that this line was interesting and amusing: Going back a little further, Microsoft introduced the idea of microtransactions back in 2005. Ain't nobody gonna get addicted to this shit. This is what mobile gaming looked like in 2006. Mobile gaming didn't explode until after everyone started getting smartphones. That was back in 2006, 1 year before Apple launched their first iPhone. That was the first time that western gamers scoffed at the idea of microtransactions. No matter the industry, businesses have been trying to find new ways to nickle-and-dime customers for as long as businesses have been a thing. Now in regards to the idea that mobile gaming is the worst thing to happen to the gaming industry: nickle-and-diming customers isn't a brand new concept that was introduced by mobile gaming. Mobile games, indie games, AAA games, checkers, chess, hide and seek - they're all games. One quick visit to the bargain section of Steam proves that lazy developers aren't unique to mobile. Sure, there's a lot of crap in mobile gaming. (That job sucked for a whole lot of reasons, though. I truly am worried about what the future of gaming will be like as more and more parts of the games are cut up and sold off as separate packages. Deus Ex has the ability to buy 1 time use Praxis points as an example that used to be something that at one time would have just been a cheat code or easter egg in a game is now monetized. ![]() Publishers are more and more trying to sell cheats in the games. Fast forward to today and it is becoming clear what the end goal was. Just a few years ago Cheatengine was sued by the publishers and it was looked at as just stupid. ![]()
